Taking pictures through frames, is an easy way to focus the attention of the viewer to a certain subject or point. You can use windows, doorways, arcs as frames, also natural elements can be used as frames such as brunches and leaves of a tree. There are many things that you can use as a frame, it is up to your creativity.
To keep both frame and the subject in focus use narrow apertures (ex. f/22), and to make the frame blur while your subject is sharp use a wide aperture (ex. f/5,6) Also don’t forget to check if the focusing and metering sensors are on the subject not on the frame. Otherwise you may experience some problems in the picture like, too bright subject and subject out of focus. Frames in photography are usually darker than main subject, most of the time reading the light amount from the subject will make the frame darker, but there are exceptions.
