After the release of D300, photography community started to wonder what will be the next camera of Nikon? Some say it will be D3x, an upgrade to D3. It is possible that the Nikon can make the D3X a 24 - 25 Megapixels camera, in order to compere with 21 MP Canon 1Ds Mark III.

But most likely Nikon’s next camera will be a cheaper one, like an upgrade to D80. If this next camera contains some major changes and improvements it will be named as D90, but if the changes are minor so it will be named D80x as Nikon always do. (D70 -> D70x). But most people think Nikon will keep code “90″ for a further date and more remarkable improvements such as image sensor.

There’s no official announcements from Nikon yet. But people who are in the DSLR industry foresee that the possible technical features would be;

  • 12 Megapixel CMOS sensor (similar to the D300 sensor)
  • D80 body and viewfinder
  • D200 AF sensor (11-points, 1 cross type)
  • 4 fps continuous shooting
  • 3.0” LCD
  • No Live-View
  • Anti-Dust System
  • Improved high ISO performance
  • Improved metering system
  • Improved battery life
  • $1000 to $1200 price range
